AB COMMUNICATION STUDENTS LEARNED THE ESSENCE OF STYLE AND PASSION
JUNE 30, 2016. The AB Communication students had their general assembly at the University of the Assumption Domus Mariae Hotel with the Theme: Discovering your powerbase in the field of arts.
According to Ms. Precious Eunice Canlas, the President of the Organization of Mass Communication Students Association 2016-2017, the general assembly includes trainings and workshops of makeup styling and photojournalism. The objective of the assembly is to hone the students’ skills and passion in photography and photo captioning as well as to develop their personality through makeup styling. Mr.Gerald Gloton as the first speaker tackles about passion in photography. He says that "being a photographer is easy nowadays because of the digital age but the challenge is; it is hard also to be excel" which is true because nowadays a lot of us have cameras and it's very easy to become a photographer but it’s difficult to stand out from the other photographers and passion makes you differ from others. Mr. Gloton added that photojournalism includes subjects covered and the impact, action, & emotion brought about from the shots taken by a photojournalist. Being able to responsibly express and communicate a message to the public, one who uses visual story telling gives way to provide a reflection of life. Journalism is to enact change and journalists are the catalysts for change. For sure it will bring change either positive or negative through exclusive coverage, exposure of truths, and surprise of sudden shoots. The selling point on this is that the idea on what a photo means. Because in one photo there is an important message you can learn. You can excel through the creativity of your photo. GERALD GLOTON is currently working as the Production Coordinator for GMA News’ Special Assignments Team; a photographer for fashion, and events with Dream Project Media who also covered Summer Siren Festival; part time copywriter for TeamManila Lifestyle and contributed as a graphic artist, photographer and writer on the sheets of Philippine Star, Healthy Skin and non-government organizations like Save the Children and Unicef Philippines. Recently he won 1st place in the photo essay contest for Grid Magazine’s Advanced Travel Photography Workshop presented by Henry’s & Fujifilm. He was declared Photographer of the Year 2015 by Gawad Digmaang Rosas 11, the highest award giving body of The Angelite, Official Student Publication of Holy Angel University for Literary Excellence. Gloton too, was hailed as Grand winner for Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) Foundation’s “Unbanked” National Photography Competition. Shooting for Fashion, he produced editorial outputs for School of Fashion and the Arts (SoFA) and did collaborations with new breed stylists and make-up artists. Back in College, Gloton honed his craft in the University of the Assumption as 2013-2014 Regina’s Editor-in-Chief. He also did editorial cartooning, layout, writing, and photography. He also participated and competed in SPAM confabs and became SPAM Junior (now National Federation of Campus Journalists) President, 2012-2013. Ms.Jocelyn Tañedo as the second speaker tackles about Make-up styling. As a student it's also important to make themselves beautiful, not only for everyday lives but also for the especial events like job hunting, attending seminars or especial occasions like attending meeting or party. Ms.Tañedo made a demo on how the proper way of using make-ups because nowadays there are student who are using substandard product which has a side effect to the users. She mentioned that it's ok to buy the local one rather than fake ones because of the high content of the led which causes a negative effect to the user’s skin and it's not healthy to and not advisable to use them. In line with this the topic is flexible, that not only the communication students will be gaining knowledge but also other courses. It can also help the graduating students to acquire some tips on how to use it as per the aforementioned statement. According to Ms. Tañedo, Makeup is a part of power dressing and the main idea of power dressing is to make you look confident and authoritative. Makeup actually adds confidence by simply covering our imperfections and enhancing our natural beauty. LOOK GOOD. FEEL GOOD. DO GOOD she added. When you look good, you feel good. Confidence in what you're wearing is very important. If you feel good, you will always perform your best without worrying about anything. Joyce Tañedo is an alumnus of Angeles University Foundation major in broadcasting. Has a certificate in Culinary Arts at Le Roux Academy with NC2 Worked at Sephora Singapore as a Beauty Advisor (2012) . She also attended Basic Make Up course at Make up Forever Singapore and currently conducting seminars and workshop around San Fernando Pampanga and soon out of town a professional makeup artist.
