The Coffee Shop's Affliction

I was running, almost out of breath. It could be the last time, and it was so painful to have that thought enter my mind. He was leaving the school for Aomori. He was leaving our memories we’ve made - the orphanage, the beach, our Sundays together - he was leaving me. He asked me to meet him at a coffee shop near our school. It was an “okay” coffee shop, although their chai tea latte tasted as if they dropped a spoonful of dish-washing liquid, so I had no choice but to change the usual. I entered the shop looking for him frantically. The coffee shop was crammed and everyone was so noisy. I couldn’t find him, blame my sight-endurance, but he was there. I was sure of that. I could feel his eyes looking at me. Before finding my way to the counter, someone from the back pulled me close, giving me a back hug. It was him. Of course, it was him. I could smell the faint of sweat emanating from him, I could hear his deep breathing, and even the way he place his chin on my shoulder was too familiar. I unclasped his hands to face him, and he smiled weakly.

“Gatsby...” I let out; my voice was shaky, before fixing his crooked necktie.”Who’s going to do that for you when you’re already gone?” There was a follow-up of a smile, too, before letting my eyes pool with tears. He wiped the first drop off with his right hand. “Who’s going to do that for you when I’m already gone?” He asked back, and then I couldn’t restrain it anymore. I hugged him, closing the gap between us.

“I’m going to miss you…”
