Jesus gave them this answer
Jesus gave them this answer: “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, to your amazement he will show him even greater things than these. For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it.”
John 5:19-21
Lord Jesus is telling this group of unbelieving Pharisees that He does the same work as the Father. The Father can raise the dead, so He can raise the dead. This is the basis for our trust in Christ… He’s the Life-giver who gives breath to everyone who needs it, if you want to live an abundant life, then there’s no one else you can turn to. Elsewhere, Jesus says that He is the Resurrection and the Life. Our hope must be firmly planted in Him. He’s the source of our life. Without Him, we are nothing.
The next few verses tell us that Jesus has the same authority as the God the Father. Disrespecting the Son is disrespecting the Father who sent Him. That’s why any study about the Return of the Lord must start with His teachings and we must turn to Him and accept Him as our Savior first before making our way to the Father. We must accept the fact that without Him, we are nothing. We must not lean and focused on our own understanding, but rather learn to surrender and focused on Him in every situation we are facing and will be facing in the future. We have to surrender everything because He is our Father. He is Jesus.
