Student Leaders bind amidst ‘Habagat’

12th Annual Religare with the theme “Rise as One, Forward Together” held at the University of the Assumption, Domus Mariae International Center continuously bind student leaders amidst the strike of Habagat in Pampanga, August 12-14.

Central Student Councils from different universities and colleges of Region 3 and 177 student leaders unites as one for the 8th Student Leader’s Congress to participate in the workshop, interactive discussions, team building and outreach programs prepared for them by the UACSC (University of the Assumption Central Student Council).

“Take response to our call” Jason Martinez, UACSC President, said upon explaining why student leaders are gathered for Religare 2016.

Delegates are group into four teams which represents this year’s theme; Dimalupig, red team symbolizes bravery and goodwill, Sandigan, yellow team for rightfulness and who always depend on what is right, while Kalinaw, blue team is for wisdom, intelligence and kindness, and Bigkis, green team is for harmony and connection with others. First task given to students is to always portray the given values and stick together as team for the 3-day event.

“Youth possibilities are limitless” upon opening the Religare with a keynote speech about youth is the key and will be the future according to Dr. Arnel Sicat, Director of UA Research Office.

Dr. Sicat delivers an inspiring message for the participants that in leading one must consider hindsight looking back to the past, insight analyzing and acting in the present, and foresight, seeing the future.

However, Agnes Reano, political anaylist and professor of Ateneo De Manila discusses the Filipino nation, how to be a Filipino, what it takes and measures to be a Filipino on the first plenary.

Reano first explained what the difference of nationalism is and patriotism, according to her nationalism is pride and believed, while patriotism is love and duty. Also, tackled about how Religare is unique in bringing up student leaders to learn and help them nourish their talents.

“Change is involvement, start it from you.” Agnes Reano leaving this quote to the students on how to respond in our country’s calling.

Team building on the second day was not cancelled yet it is one of the most enjoyable part of the event according to the participants followed by Religareans nights and ended the event with a outreach activity on a Sunday.
